The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory is a historical-fiction romance novel originally published in 2006. In accordance with real world history and as suggested in the author’s reading order, it is the 10th book in The Plantagenet and Tudor Novels (combination of Tudor Court and Cousins’ War series). The series loosely adapts the history of England, especially the history of important female royal figures.
The book focuses on the reign of King Henry VIII from the point of view of Anne of Cleves (4th wife of King Henry VIII), Katherine Howard (5th wife of King Henry VIII), and Jane Boleyn (sister-in-law of King Henry VIII).
In Phillipa Gregory’s reading order suggestion, the book is preceded by The Other Boleyn Girl (book 9) and followed by The Taming of the Queen (book 11). (You can find other books in the series here.)

Summary of the Book
The Boleyn Inheritance is a novel drawn tight as a lute string about a court ruled by the gallows and three women whose positions brought them wealth, admiration, and power as well as deceit, betrayal, and terror. Once again, Philippa Gregory has brought a vanished world to life – the whisper of a silk skirt on a stone stair, the yellow glow of candlelight illuminating a hastily written note, the murmurs of the crowd gathering on Tower Green below the newly built scaffold. In The Boleyn Inheritance Gregory is at her intelligent and page-turning best.
Reviews of The Boleyn Inheritance
This is another of my favorite books. It covers the marriages and lives of Anne of Cleve’s and Katherine Howard (two of King Henry the rights wives) and also Jane Boleyn who is known to have given evidence against her sister Anne and her husband which ultimately led to their deaths. When reading this book you feel as if you are their with them. You can see Anne struggling with the English language and her innocence. You can witness Kitty Howard’s wanton behaviors and her love for Culpepper which ended in both of their deaths. Finally you can see how wrong and twisted Jane is. She thinks she is doing right when so clearly she is wrong. This books are some of my favorites. I love the writings of Philippa Gregory and I am so glad to add them to my digital copy along with my others. (by Jamie, amazon.com)
