First published in 2001, Heavier Than Heaven by Charles R Cross is a bestselling Kurt Cobain biography. With the intention of writing a definitive book on Kurt, Cross conducted hundreds of interview and years of research. All the hard work is reflected in how book presents deep and multidimensional perspective on Kurt Cobain. It wonderfully chronicles Kurt’s life journey, how art and music (especially punk rock) became his savior, his success as the “godfather” of grunge with his legendary band, Nirvana, and sadly, how that monumental success brought a tragic end for him.

Summary of the Book
This is the first in-depth biography of the troubled genius Kurt Cobain. Based on exclusive access to Cobains unpublished diaries, more than 400 interviews, four years of research, and a wealth of documentation, Heavier Than Heaven traces Cobains life from his early days in a double-wide trailer outside of Aberdeen, Washington, to his rise to fame, fortune, and the adulation of a generation.
Reviews of Heavier Than Heaven
This book isn’t just a treatise on the life of Cobain. It is a psychological profile of Kurt Cobain; lifting the hood over the engine and taking a look at all the rusty gears and the worn out spark plugs. Cross does an amazing job of truly understanding the way Cobain thought…Ultimately, I developed a love/hate relationship with this book. While it was impeccably researched and extremely intriguing I felt really sad by the time I finished it. I developed a lot of empathy for Kurt throughout the reading and was devastated by the end of the book to think of all of that amazing talent wasted through suicide. Very sad indeed.
