Edgedancer by Brandon Sanderson is a fantasy novella originally released in 2016. It is labeled book 2.5 in The Stormlight Archive series. The book follows the adventure of a young surgebinder, and a thief, Lift. She just acquires a new power and is not to sure the true potential of that power and how to use it. What she finds out is that she can steal a lot of food with it. However, that power has led her into a great danger as the Darkness, who hunts the new incarnations of Knight Radiants, is now putting Lift in his list.

Summary of the Book

The downtrodden in Yeddaw have no champion, and Lift knows she must seize this awesome responsibility.

This work from Sanderson is the perfect example of what makes him a great writer. I didn’t like the character of Lift for much of this book. Her uneducated language and her carelessness (even reckless to some degree) made her seem incapable of fully coming to understand and accept who she is and what her purpose is. But as Sanderson continues to weave his story and develop Lift’s character we start to see shades of understanding, the building of character, and the grasping of the understanding that sometimes we are destined for more (even if we never asked for that). By the end of this book we see a little girl partly transformed and I’m excited to see how she might fit in to the larger picture with the rest of the Stormlight Archive. This book is excellent—as all Sanderson stories are. He’s truly a literary master. (by Donald T., amazon.com)
